Common questions

Is there income tax on Cayman Islands civil service pay?

No. The Cayman Islands has no income tax. The only mandatory deduction from a civil service payslip is the National Pensions Law contribution - 5% of pay, matched by your employer, up to a CI$87,000 a year pensionable-earnings ceiling.

What does a grade's “band” number mean?

Each grade (A to R) has a job-evaluation point-count range shown alongside it, like 775-869 for Grade E. It’s an internal classification range, not a monetary figure - the pay points themselves are the annual CI$ amounts.

Why are some pay points marked closed to new hires?

Since 1 December 2022, new appointees can’t start at point 1 of most grades (more points are closed for some lower grades - see each grade’s page). The points are still shown because they’re real pay for staff already on them.

How often does the Cayman Islands salary scale change?

Irregularly, via Personnel Circulars rather than a fixed schedule - the source document lists cost-of-living adjustments in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and most recently 2025.

Source: Cayman Islands Government, Portfolio of the Civil Service, CIG Salary Scale, Appendix B (Personnel Circular 11 of 2024), dated 2025-01. A pay point's figures are per the official table; confirm your exact point with your HR department. Point 1 of most grades (more for some - see each grade's page) has been closed to new appointments since 1 December 2022; kept here because it's still a real pay point for staff already on it.
